The brief for this project was to develop a design for social housing in a residential area of the city. The units were a mixture of flats and houses of different tenure.
There were a number of protected mature trees on the site and so a design was developed that would incorporate them as a feature of the scheme as part of the shared external areas.
The project was designed to meet Code for Sustainable Homes 3 and had a number of key elements; high performance windows, improved insulation levels, daylighting analysis, solar thermal roof panels to heat the hot water, rainwater collection for flushing the toilets and enhanced acoustic separation between flats.
