Core Principles
MJM Architecture was set up by Mark McPhee as a means of providing clients with strategies and advice on sustainable design as a fundamental component of high-quality architectural services. The practice is intended as a response to the climate emergency and the need to make a positive contribution in the fight against runaway climate change.
Design quality
The practice seeks to provide quality architectural designs that are elegant, beautiful and practical. We take the same approach to all of our projects irrespective of the scale or budget. We understand that our clients will want to make the most of their budget and we believe that good design does not need to cost the earth.
Through a personal approach we take time to listen to our client's requirements and explore with them possible solutions. By working closely with our clients we are able to help them achieve projects that exceed their expectations.
Sustainable design
The practice focuses on retrofit projects which means working with existing homes and reducing their impact on the energy demand of the UK to a level that is required for the UK to meet its 2050 Net Zero targets.
We champion the Passivhaus standard and methodologies but we also understand that not every project can or should meet those ambitious demands. In fact, it is generally agreed that a more modest standard is more appropriate for the building stock as a whole as advised by the AECB, LETI and the Retrofit Academy.
We work with our clients to understand and plan what can be practically achieved within the budget, building type, construction etc. and plan suitable strategies around these factors.
Working with others
Architecture is a collaborative process that involves many different parties. MJM helps clients select other consultants and coordinate their output in line with the architectural vision.
MJM Architecture is proud to be a RIBA Chartered Practice which requires commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, best practice and ethics.
In line with the practice's ethos it also a member of the AECB and the Passivhaus Trust, organisations which share similar ambitions.
Whether it is clients, colleagues, consultants or contractors we want to work with people with shared values. We would love to hear from you, please get in touch.
